Cardboard exhibition stand for EuroShop 2026
For our participation in EuroShop, we wanted to showcase more than just individual cardboard applications. The stand had to work as a complete concept: eye-catching, inviting, and thoughtfully designed down to the smallest detail. A place where visitors could immediately experience what is possible with cardboard, smart constructions, and striking presentations.
Every strong project starts with a good idea
For the EuroShop stand, that meant first thinking carefully about its appearance, layout, and overall experience. How do you make sure a stand not only stands out, but also feels logical and welcoming? And how do you translate an anniversary theme into a presentation that feels contemporary, powerful, and inspiring?
These questions came together in the initial sketch phase. We searched for the right lines, shapes, and layouts to present the Holbox story in the best possible way. That is exactly where the foundation was created for everything that followed.
After the first sketches and developments, the design gradually took more shape. In the various visualisations, the concept became more concrete and it became clear how appearance, routing, and presentation would come together as one cohesive whole.

This year, one theme took centre stage: “50 years of innovation, powered by Dutch design.” Not just a slogan, but a story that fits who Holbox is. This year, we are celebrating Holbox’s 50th anniversary. That is exactly why we wanted to show on the exhibition floor where we come from, what we stand for, and how innovation and design have gone hand in hand within our company for many years.
The stand therefore not only had to attract attention, but also tell our story: about creativity, craftsmanship, the power of cardboard, and 50 years of entrepreneurship with an enduring drive to innovate.

How the design became reality
After the sketches and visualisations, we first created a white test model. This helped us assess the design spatially and immediately gave us a better feel for the construction, proportions, layout, and build-up of the stand. From there, the concept could be further refined and developed.
Next, the design was translated into production through the various parts of the stand. Construction, print, and finishing came together in this phase, ensuring everything was well prepared for assembly on site. In this way, the project grew from a fully developed concept into a stand ready for the exhibition floor.
During the build-up at the exhibition venue, everything fell into place. Individual elements grew into one complete whole, and only then do you truly see how a design comes to life. What had previously existed on paper, in visuals, or as separate parts became a stand with presence, cohesion, and impact.
The complete concept on video
A project of this scale requires much more than just a strong idea. The real challenge was bringing together design, construction, and execution into one cohesive whole that truly works on the exhibition floor. What makes this project even more special is that the stand not only makes a strong visual impression, but also demonstrates how versatile cardboard can be. Everything is made of cardboard, even the parts visitors do not immediately see, such as the structure of the windmill.
“This project shows that cardboard is so much more than just a material. It gives us the freedom to think big, engineer smartly and create something in which creativity, innovation and craftsmanship truly come together,” says Ricardo Valkenburg, designer of the cardboard windmill.

The final result at EuroShop
At EuroShop, the result was a custom-made cardboard exhibition stand that showed exactly what we wanted to convey. A stand with a strong appearance, smart details, and a complete visual concept that invited visitors to look further. Not as a collection of separate elements, but as one coherent design in which creativity, presentation, and cardboard came together.
With “50 years of innovation, powered by Dutch design”, the stand gained extra meaning. It was not only a striking presentation on the exhibition floor, but also a powerful moment within our anniversary year. A great example of how design, innovation, and cardboard come together in a sustainable exhibition stand.
The stand as a complete concept
Although the windmill attracted a great deal of attention, it was of course not the only part of the stand. Around it, we developed a complete concept with different elements that together told the story of Holbox.
There were interactive displays, such as stand-in figures, our swipe & match panel, and the history of Holbox on the inside of the windmill. In addition, the Re-board trees, benches, and other exhibition furniture were also part of the overall concept. They were not only functional, but also reinforced the look and atmosphere of the stand.
By carefully aligning all these elements, we created an exhibition stand that continued to surprise visitors and allowed them to discover something new in multiple places.
