Sustainability

At Holbox Shop Direct, we like to look towards the future and, where possible, we aim to make a difference. Key terms such as chain transparency, Cradle to Cradle, and sustainability are more relevant than ever, and we are already working on these aspects every day in practice. For instance, in the area of sustainability, we have recently taken a step towards an even more environmentally and user-friendly printing process, in combination with consumables such as plant-based inks and grass paper. We have also developed our own Sustainability ID, which allows you to access a unique material passport by scanning an integrated QR code on the display. This is not only good for the environment but also for us and for you.

Creative Waste

Each Dutch person uses about 200 kilograms of paper annually, almost a quarter of total waste. Keeping this in mind, we make extra efforts to use paper efficiently, and we now use very little so-called "waste" when adjusting the printing press colors. The waste that is used later gets a second life under the term Creative Waste, in the form of trash bins, furniture, notepads, and our well-known flowers.
Additionally, the entire production process is designed sustainably, and materials from die-cutting tools and printing plates are always reused after the end of their life cycle, as are cleaning water and cloths.

FSC® and PEFC Certified

To demonstrate that we use sustainable raw materials, we are certified by the two leading non-profit organizations in the field of sustainability and responsible forest management: FSC® and PEFC. Both organizations are committed to preventing large-scale deforestation and are supported by well-known environmental organizations such as the WNF and Greenpeace. Thanks to these certifications, we are able to produce FSC® and PEFC certified displays upon request.

Sustainability ID

As the world’s first display manufacturer, we offer our customers the opportunity to add a Sustainability ID to displays. This unique addition allows customers and consumers to access a unique material passport for each display within seconds by scanning the integrated QR code with a smartphone or tablet. Convenient and transparent!

This passport not only shows which recycled and certified paper or cardboard types the display consists of but also which environmentally friendly inks or coatings were used to print the material and in which waste bin the promotional product should go after its lifecycle. Since Holbox displays only contain paper or cardboard, we aim to make the display as transparent as possible to make the recycling process—and thus a second life—shorter.

  • Material Passport: shows which recycled and environmentally friendly materials are used in the display (material, ink, etc.)

  • Option to equip each display with this label

  • Chain Transparency

  • Accountability to customers and consumers

Grass Paper

Grass paper is the sustainable alternative to regular paper and cardboard. Grass paper has a natural appearance with visible grass fibers. It is FSC-certified and consists of 30% grass fibers and 70% recycled paper. The use of grass paper reduces wood consumption, making it very sustainable! Additionally, the production process uses 50% less water and 50% less energy compared to the production of regular paper.
